What to Do Near Florida Street? 7 Places to Explore on Foot

Florida is right in the heart of Buenos Aires and offers excellent access to some of the city’s best-known attractions. From Galerías Pacífico to Plaza San Martín and Puerto Madero, there’s plenty to do without having to go too far.

Florida Street is one of the most famous pedestrian streets in Buenos Aires.

Its location lets you combine shopping, architecture, parks, and walks to Retiro or Puerto Madero all in one outing.

If you’re in the area, here are a few places worth adding to your itinerary.

1. Galerías Pacífico
It’s located at 753 Florida Street.

The building was constructed in 1889 and is now one of the city’s most famous shopping centers. Its centerpiece is the central dome, decorated with murals by Argentine artists such as Antonio Berni, Lino Enea Spilimbergo, Demetrio Urruchúa, and Juan Carlos Castagnino.

It’s worth stopping by even if you don’t plan on shopping.

2. Plaza San Martín
Continuing along Florida Street toward Retiro, you’ll reach Plaza San Martín.

It’s one of the city center’s largest green spaces, and from its embankment you can enjoy views of Retiro and Puerto Madero.

It’s a good place to take a break before continuing your walk.

3. Kavanagh Building
Very close to Plaza San Martín stands one of Buenos Aires’ most recognizable buildings.

Its silhouette is part of the Retiro skyline and makes for an excellent architectural stop along the route.

4. Retiro
From Plaza San Martín, you can continue toward Retiro Station and its surroundings.

The area combines historic buildings, public transportation, plazas, and a side of Buenos Aires that’s more about the daily hustle and bustle.

5. Puerto Madero
From Florida, you can also head eastward and reach Puerto Madero.

The walk offers a completely different landscape: the water, the docks, the Puente de la Mujer, and more open spaces come into view. The official tourism website highlights Puerto Madero for its parks, the Ecological Reserve, and its history tied to the old port.

6. Córdoba Avenue
Florida crosses Córdoba Avenue right where Galerías Pacífico is located.

From there, you can continue on to other parts of downtown or use this avenue as a reference point to head toward Recoleta.

7. Microcentro on Foot
One of the best ways to explore this area is simply by walking.

Florida, San Martín, Reconquista, and the surrounding streets are lined with buildings from different eras, cafes, shops, and plenty of urban activity.

Sometimes the pleasure of the walk lies more in looking around than in reaching your destination.

How much time do you need?
In an hour, you can walk along Florida, stop by Galerías Pacífico, and reach Plaza San Martín.

With two hours or more, you can add Retiro to your itinerary or head down toward Puerto Madero.

If you want to stop for a bite to eat, browse stores, or take a break in a park, it’s best to keep your itinerary flexible.

It’s one of those locations where simply stepping out of the hotel is already part of the experience.
